WiCyS Conference
Source: Other
My second year attending the Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) National Conference! SO much to appreciate, but here are some highlights
> I had a chance to “Build, Break, Defend: Securing the Model Context Protocol” in a workshop hosted by Shruti Datta Gupta and Spandana Sarala Gorantla. I was introduced to the fundamentals of Anthropic‘s MCP — its architecture, components, and role in enabling agentic interoperability. We moved into a CTF-style break phase, then utilized threat-modeling frameworks (STRIDE & MITRE ATLAS) to design practical mitigations.
> The ICS Escape Room by Idaho National Laboratory was amazing. It was so surreal seeing my classwork at GMU come to life as we simulated a catastrophe, combining forensics + physical controls + networking in a team-based environment.
> Favorite presentation: Shannon McHale‘s “GCP CL-WHY: The Hacker’s and the Hero’s Guide to the CLI”, which I attended alongside Shriya Pasyavala and my Bloomberg Bear (ifykyk). We explored what we can do to proactively lock down the gateway to our cloud environments, presented through the POV of an attacker.
> Seeing familiar faces (particularly Yasmin K.‘s keynote at lunch + an impromptu iftar run with Maha N.), making new friends, and connecting with valuable people and resources. It was even more special experiencing this with my lovely WiCyS GMU – Student Chapter. đź’ś
